Classic WHO this. Loads of knicker wetting over a pre-season friendly defeat to one of the best teams out there, who have spent a packet on new players.

Didn't see the game, no desire to. Let's at least wait and see how we perform over our first five prem games before making serious judgements about Bilic's future in the job!

Re: West Ham v Man City (TV details)
The main problem yesterday was that Man City have lots of much faster and more skillful players.

West Ham need to spend as big as City and attract the same kind of players, if we want to match them and play them at their own game.

The fact that West Ham have not bought these kind of players, and filled the squad with them, means the sky will soon fall on our heads and rivers of piss will flow in the streets, just as Enoch Powell predicted.

What worries me is how a premier league manager can be so tactically naïve. We were so flat last night with seemingly a back 4 and a midfield 5 in front of them replicating a very flat 451 and yet with players like Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne City have players who play between the lines and drop into holes and that made painful viewing with a massive area of space between our back 4 and midfield.

>>> 100% from the players and some luck

I think that's the extent of the plan really. Shove em on the field and hope it works out.

We need an injection of confidence.

We have a few players who constantly let us down, but thats what we can afford. We dont seem to be able to offload Snodgrass and Fonte, so thats life.

On the other hand, we have planty of decent players. And we need right now is a boost of confidence.
To get that we need 100% from the players and some luck

Arms and fingers crossed!

I really want Bilic to do well.

I suspect that he and the team will be capable of beating enough sides to keeps us top of the bottom / bottom of top half but we'll see.

I'm happy with the signings and compared to last season there really can be no excuses for another season flirting with relegation.

Interesting idea sticking Rice in midfield - remember a certain Reece Oxford being given the nod away to Arsenal and all but disappearing from there on! Hopefully if Rice is given his chance he takes it.

Yeah. They tried that and it didn't work so they tried something different and it looks like that's not going great either. Therefore there's something fundamentally wrong somewhere and that's where you have to look at the quality of the coaching staff and the motivation and mentallity of the squad.

I get the feeling that being a West Ham player is fairly easy. Big wages, no real expectation, no huge pressure put on, just get out there and try your best lads. Nowhere near good enough.

All about the manager not just buying players as I said.
Clearly Billic doesn't have a scooby.
A better manager would get much more out of the same players!

I agree with that Alex. I wanted the board to replace Bilic at the end of last season but I'm not going to start that debate again just because we have looked a bit of a shambles again in pre-season.

However, I have to say Bilic's tactics have been poor. We will probably start our first 3 away games with a back 3 yet have played all our friendlies with a back 4.

Many posters have been slagging off our midfield for ages and I just have to say that this is the year of Declan Rice. When he came on yesterday he was superb again and disrupted lots of Citeh attacks to the heart of our defense.

His distribution is very good too but will he get to start over Noble? I'm not sure Bilic is capable of grasping those kind of nettles and clearly has an obsession with 'exprience'.

Not impressed so far I have to say.

We should be starting with Declan Rice playing in front

As opposed to last summer's tactic of buying players without Premierleague experience who turned out to be shit, Pagey?

Doesn't matter who we sign, it will make little difference!

Until the owners and Billic leave and are replaced by peole more capable nothing changes!

Re: West Ham v Man City (TV details)
The logic behind transfers lately is to buy players who are ready now and have Premier League experience. It does make sense, but what happens when they all turn out to be shit for some reason?

I normally give the benefit of the doubt but, as has been said already, there seems to be no plan in place of how we're going to play or how the players we buy are going to fit into what we're trying to do.

Re: West Ham v Man City (TV details)
Agree Alex

Been talking about it on the transfer thread. We seem to be buying other clubs best players and hoping for the best. It's the type of plan that my six year old would come up with. I actually find our approach to the game quite depressing particularly as I hate the style of play that you mentioned so much. In addition signings like Fonte, Zab and Snod make me want to tear my eye balls out.

However, I'm aware that I can't change it so I just support the team and avoid moaning in the ground or the pubs. The lack of control and simple trust in the magic of claret and blue is what I enjoy most about football. It's very frustrating though as with our means we could be so much better very easily.

Re: West Ham v Man City (TV details)
After pre-season I'm none the wiser as to what the plan is - there is absolutely no indication that there is one honestly. How do this bunch of players fit together? As far as I can tell we're going to once more be a bits and pieces side relying on set-pieces this season. If it keeps us steady then okay, but I want to see signs of a genuine plan for how the club intends to build towards success.

'We already go into the new season hamstrung by having to play our first three games away after being promised by Brady that West Ham would ALWAYS take precedence over any other event held at The London Stadium. How long did that promise last? One fucking season.'

As you well know, that commitment was in place years before we acquired the stadium, comprising as it did part of the Olympic bid, and she was obviously excluding it because there was no reason to state the fucking obvious.

Any other occasions, apart from the one we all knew about, that you can think of? Or are you just coming out with the feeblest excuse for a bit of board-bashing yet?
